The History of Alpha Chi Epsilon
Robert Tepedino, stood down from the fraternity, Sigma Zeta Chi, because of fraternal issues and decided to organize and start a fraternity. Rob Tepedino brought Joe Pinto, Freshman Class President, and Steve Price to the Student Affairs office to present the idea to them. This fraternity would be based on brotherhood, loyalty, respect and integrity, like no other fraternity on campus. They started recruiting other members and on December 17, 1982 founded what is now known as the strongest brotherhood on campus. These three people along with the other 21 founding members became the founding fathers of Alpha Chi Epsilon Fraternity (AXE) with Rob Tepedino as the first President of AXE. As men of Pace University, they recognized the expanding needs and formed AXE to promote social involvement and academic accomplishment.
In the eyes of these members, AXE was built not only on brotherhood, but also on unity, power, and trust. These members came together to not only organize AXE, but Pace University as well. Joe Pinto was Freshman Class, Sophomore Class, and SGA President, along with the VP of Greek Council during the duration of his Pace years. Nate Basile was the Financial Council Chairman, along with Frank Antunes the Social Council Chairman.
After 25 years of brotherhood, many of the local organizations around Pace University were beginning to fall apart and membership was very low. In the beginning of the spring semester 2007, we were the only local fraternity on campus and our numbers were dwindling. With our concern for our charter and the acknowledgement that changes needed to be made, in November 2007, our brotherhood decided to revamp our organization and become a corporation. We filed as a not for profit organization, Alpha Chi Epsilon Inc. and was granted not for profit status by the state of New York.
With this opportunity to rebuild the brotherhood that defined so many lives throughout different college years, it was time to give AXE well needed direction. A small group that had originally formed the corporation developed the board of directors for a newly formed Alumni Association. The board of directors was originally made up of Andrew Brown, Mario Marcellino, David Pergolla and Mark Tantillo. The premise of this association was to help motivate active brothers to support and rebuild our brotherhood to what it was in the past. The Re-growth began in 2008 with the help of the alumni association through donations, organizing events, setting up contacts, as well as participation in meeting and events.
The Alumni Association has now taken over the organizing of large events as well as the fund raising process. We have also become heavily involved in the organization of charity events as well as active participants. We host and take part in many local events that benefit many different charities.
Even after 25 years, many members, including many found fathers, are still in contact with the active members as well as other alumni. The founding fathers are very pleased to see that their traditions are still upheld and carried on as they were in 1982.
Over the years AXE has motivated leadership, maturity, responsibility, and with over 250 alumni, we can confidently say successful lives. AXE has created a process to unite each brother in such a way that once you graduate you will never lose touch.
Once an AXE brother always an AXE brother. Brothers for life!
